Water Filtration Systems and Your Health

The number one cause of death in the world is the water we drink, cook and bathe in. Yet, the US has the safest water in the world. Our municipalities are mandated by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to chemically treat our water supply to keep it safe and bacteria-free. These municipalities use chlorine and other chemicals in the water supply to keep our water safe and bacteria-free. Although these chemicals are necessary for immediate safety purposes, they have an effect on our long-term health and should be removed prior to drinking or bathing in our water.

In its official 2008-2009 annual report, the President’s Cancer Panel recommends that people use home water-filtering devices to decrease exposure to cancer-causing agents.

The Panel’s 2008–2009 Report* is entitled “Reducing Environmental Cancer Risks: What We Can Do Now.” In it, the panel states, “Individuals and families have many opportunities to reduce or eliminate chemical exposures. For example, filtering home tap water or well water can decrease exposure to numerous known or suspected carcinogens or endocrine-disrupting chemicals.”

“This reaffirms what independent testing shows,” said Peter J. Censky, executive director of the Water Quality Association. “Home water treatment is a proven final barrier against many harmful chemicals.”

*The report is published by the U.S Department of Health and Human Services National Institute of Health and National Cancer Institute. You can read the full report at www.pcp.cancer.gov.

Water Filtration Systems and the Plumbing in Your Home

Many of the chemicals and minerals in your water can damage your appliances and fixtures. Treating your water with a whole-house carbon filtration system can remove these chemicals and extend the life of your plumbing. For example:

  • Sediment removed from the water in your home will not build up in your water heater – so the water heater will operate more efficiently and last longer
  • Corrosives in the water will not destroy rubber and plastic parts such as the flappers and fill valves in your toilets or the washers in your faucets thereby reducing the need for plumbing repairs.

Water Filtration Systems and the Earth

When you are considering ways to protect our planet, consider these numbers:

  • 17 million barrels of oil are used each year to produce plastic bottles in the USA.
  • 1.5 million tons of waste plastic water bottles are put in our nations landfills each year. This plastic does not degrade. It will be there forever.
  • Hundreds of millions of gallons of gas are needed to transport bottled water to retail locations and consumers’ homes. Hundreds of millions more gallons of gas are needed to transport the waste plastic to landfills.

Water Filtration Systems and Your Wallet

A drinking water system at your sink or a whole-house water filtration system can both save you hundreds of dollars a year. Just look at the numbers.

  • A single 12 oz bottle of water can cost as much as $2 depending on where you purchase it; and congressional investigations have revealed that much of the time the water in these bottles is nothing more than unfiltered tap water.
  • You can create your own filtered water at your faucet for as little as $2 per 2,000 gallons using one of H2O Harmony’s Water Filtration Systems.
  • You can save even more money by not having to make so many trips to the stores to haul home cases of bottled water.

Help Atlanta Plumbing Plus achieve its goal of NO MORE PLASTIC WATER BOTTLES IN LANDFILLS and save money at the same by having us installing water filtration system in your home.

Simple Harmony – Get Bottled Quality Water Without the Bottle or the Bother

The Simple Harmony Drinking Water System is the smart, economical way to enjoy the best water possible. It tucks neatly under your sink and dispenses a constant supply of delicious water to the faucet installed at your sink.

The Simple Harmony Drinking Water System effectively reduces the following contaminants:

  • Bad tastes and odors
  • Dirt and rust
  • Aesthetic chlorine

The heart of the system is a highly compressed carbon block filter made of selected activated carbons that provides 1 micron filtration and a constant supply of highly filtered drinking water.

The Simply Harmony Drinking Water System produces up to 500* gallons of drinking water before the cartridge needs to be replaced. And, when a cartridge change is required, all it takes is a quick turn of the filter body locking ring. No tools are required.•

How a Simple Harmony Drinking Water System Works

Step 1: Cold water enters the system.

Step 2: Water is forced through the tightly compressed activated carbon block filter that has a porosity of only 1 micron.

Step 3: Unwanted substances are trapped and filtered out.

Step 4: Water leaves the filter and flows through the system’s faucet, providing you with an abundant supply of crystal clear, delicious water for both drinking and cooking.

Whole Harmony – improve the quality of the water you need everyday.

Sometimes less is more: Many public and private water supplies require extra treatment to reduce sediment and turbidity, iron, manganese or hydrogen sulfide. Also, some water may be corrosive to plumbing fixtures or contain an excessive amount of chlorine.

The Whole Harmony filter can handle these problems efficiently and economically – those you see and those you don’t, including:

  • sediment and turbidity: Particles as small as 20 microns in size are removed.
  • tastes and odors: A special grade of activated carbon provides high-capacity adsorption of tastes and odors such as chlorine.
  • acidic water: For corrosive water due to low pH, a neutralizing media is an effective method of elevating the pH to an acceptable level. And the automatic filter eliminates the need for inconvenient chemical-feed systems.
  • iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide: which stain dishes, fabrics and fixtures.
  • Hydrogen sulfide: with its “rotten egg” odor is also removed.

These easy-to-use and versatile filters offer an internal bypass so you’ll always have continuous water even during the backwash and regeneration cycles. An external bypass valve is included as well for ease of service.

Complete Harmony – Adding a Water Softener to Your Water Filtration System

Water softeners are not typically needed for homes in Georgia because the water here is already very soft. Some homeowners who moved to the South from other parts of the U.S., however, are used to having a water softener in their home and want to continue the practice. For them, there is a water softening component that can be added to the whole-house water filtration system to make it a complete product that meets all their water treatment needs.

Remember, if you are interested in a water treatment system for your home, call Atlanta Plumbing Plus at 770-447-0374 to have one of our Licensed and Experienced Plumbers, who has been trained as a local water treatment professional, provide you with a complete water filtration system including additional processes if necessary to best treat your problem water.
